ABOUT ST. LUCIA...
The island of St. Lucia is for travelers seeking pleasure and enrichment through the wonder of the undiscovered, the adventure of the unfamiliar, the freshness of the unspoiled and the stimulation of the exotic St Lucia lies at latitude 13 54’ north of the Equator and 60 50’ west. One of the Windward Islands, it is located in the middle of the Eastern Caribbean chain of islands and is approximately 21 miles south of Martinique and 90 miles northwest of Barbados. Castries (population 50,000) is the island’s capital and is situated North-west of the island.
The main language in Saint Lucia is English although many St. Lucians also speak French and Spanish. Kwéyòl, St Lucia's second language is widely spoken by the St. Lucian people.
Airline Travel Information
For visitors coming from the United States, American Airlines (www.aa.com) offers a nonstop daily service from Miami, and US Airways (www.usairways.com) offers two flights every Saturday from Philadelphia and Charlotte. Air Jamaica (www.airjamaica.com) offers direct flights from New York on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. A little further north Air Canada (www.aircanada.com) flies from Toronto two (2) days weekly in December to April and one (1) day weekly otherwise.
Delta (www.delta.com) now offers daily non-stop service from Atlanta. American Eagle (www.aa.com) flies daily to and from Puerto Rico into George Charles Airport. During the peak season, between mid-November and mid-March, a number of tour companies operate charters from London, Toronto, Milan and various Caribbean destinations.
Virgin Atlantic (www.virgin-atlantic.com) on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays and coming from Manchester on Thursdays. Virgin Atlantic will also be flying from Gatwick to St. Lucia and from Manchester to St. Lucia from as part of their summer schedule.
LIAT Star of The Caribbean (www.liatairline.com) offers an extensive service for regional travel and connections to international destinations.
Take Airlines (www.takeairlines.com) travels between the islands of St.Lucia (from Hewanorra twice daily 7:10am & 6:50pm), St.Maarten / Dominica and Guadeloupe.
Airports
There are two (2) airports on the island: Hewanorra International Airport at Vieux Fort (UVF) is located 40 miles south of Castries and George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) which adorns a pleasant coastline on the outskirts Castries.
Airport departure tax
Departure Tax of EC $68 (US $26) for all international passengers over 12 years old or EC $35 (US $13) for regional passengers must be paid when leaving the Island.
Passports & Visas
Visitors must carry valid passports. Visas are not required where the visitor is a citizen of the USA or certain Commonwealth countries or where there is agreement for exemption between the home country and St. Lucia
